Voluntary Principles in Human Rights and Security Training

Since late 2015, the Company has used an external expert/trainer, Mr. Karim Laz (formerly with the Canadian military whom has trained police forces across Africa) to facilitate training amongst the mine’s security forces on the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights was initiated by the U.S. and U.K. Governments and has grown to about a dozen signatory countries from around the world and expanding. This particular training will also be used to promote awareness to the nearby public security forces. BMSC fully endorsed the Voluntary Principles since the onset and now this training makes the company categorically leading edge in Africa. To date, only a handful of companies in Southern Africa have undertaken this training and Ghana is the only signatory country on the continent. BMSC plans to test the effectiveness of this training by going through an external audit in 2017.
